The correct response to this situation is to sink the valve seat a corrisponding amount using a cutter just larger than the valve to intensionally shroud the valve.This will kill some low lift flow which is the same as shortening the duration.Then go back to the correct lash. It is telling you that you're overcammed. I have found increased performance from this (especially on the intakes) with several cam grinds. When you increase the lash you are obviously removing lift and duration from the cam. the direction tappets are shifted reduces the side thrust on lift event this allows some extra leeway in lashing. Tappet center line is not directly over cam center line on xl. these things have roller tappets that do not like being hammered. when I started reading about increasing the lash in the valve train I thought, hmm.
